University of Derby Business School

The new University of Derby business school was a new project constructed on an area of unused land in the heart of the city, to improve the university's facilities and courses they can offer from late 2024. This project is one we were excited to be involved in due to it being an investment in the future of business and education, only 12 miles from our Headquarters.

The project presented Northfield Construction with distinctive structural challenges, notably the construction of a four-story atrium area and the necessity for specialised elements such as pour strips, down-stand beams, and PT beams. These complexities required innovative designs capable of accommodating substantial floor-to-soffit heights while ensuring a seamless construction process.

Northfield Construction opted to utilize our TITAN Support system, for its lightweight design, high load capacity, and adaptability to the project's unique requirements. The construction of the atrium area posed a particularly unique challenge for our design team, as support was required stretching over multiple floors. This challenge was met with a very positive and collaborative attitude by our team of highly skilled designers who worked hard to craft the TITAN Support system in a specialised, back-to-back configuration which spanned 4 floors.
