Angel Gardens Case Study
The project background and challenge Part of the 20 acre, £800m development in Manchester, the Angel Gardens project is a 38-storey building, comprising 466 rental apartments and towering at 108m high. Constructed on the Rochdale Road, this elevation featured a level 8 cantilever slab, which extended from 0m to 3m over the full length of the 40m building, and within close proximity to the roadside below. Ischebeck Titan were tasked with providing a solution which fully sealed the building from debris and drop hazards, whilst importantly avoiding multiple height propping from the ground floor to form the level 8 soffit.
The solution was a screen system which utilised extended cantilever needles to achieve its required position away from the structure. The 11.9m high, full perimeter Screen Saver system from Ischebeck Titan enabled the forming of the level 8 cantilever slab by providing a structural platform from which to position the Titan Falsework, whilst also protecting the public below. With only two levels of backdropping required, the client was able to hand over levels to follow on trades, on time and within programme.
“The Screen Saver system has taken away the need to install multiple lift Titan Support falsework from the ground right up to level 8 in a tight roadside area, improving the programme time and reducing both the risk of the material and labour costs included with assembling high-level decking.” Denis Cahill, Heyrod Construction
