Piling contractor MK Piling Limited has recently completed a complex Anchor Pile Project based on a cliff face in East Sussex.  It is proposed that a contemporary timber framed house will be constructed on this site, with a terrace and decking area taking advantage of the stunning cliff face vista.

The nature of the projects location dictated that unusual problems needed to be anticipated and effectively solved before works could commence. The first of these problems was how to establish the plant and machinery up a 20 metre cliff face. Mats were used to provide a suitable means to transport the A50 ton crane over the pebble beach to the set up area at the base of the cliff.

To overcome the problem of lifting capacity, which was limited to a total of 3 tonnes on plant and equipment, Ischebeck Titan’s self drilling 30/16 Black Anchor Piles (yield load 190 kN) were chosen to be installed using the rotary percussive method.  This method ensured a higher rate of production combined with good directional stability, should obstructions be encountered.

Works on this project proved successful for all parties involved, with the contract programme being slashed by 50%, enabling the main contractor to progress their works earlier than scheduled.
