A major new commercial development currently being undertaken at Jacob Street, Leeds is taking full advantage of Titan products to enhance productivity and assure safety on site.

The final structure will exceed thirty storeys in height and will provide mixed purpose accommodation, including hotel, offices and retail facilities.

Specialist concrete frame sub-contractors, Metropolitan, have utilised three main Ischebeck Titan systems to create the structure.

Our market-leading vertical climbing system, Climbtrac has been used to cast the cores and gable shear walls. The system consists of a working platform, with necessary formwork, protected by full height steel mesh screens, which is connected to a vertical track that runs up the side of the structure. When one level has been cast, the platform is raised by crane to the next level, with tracks leapfrogging ahead.

Titan Full height mesh panel safety screens have been employed during the casting of the post-tensioned floor slabs throughout the project, offering the ultimate in edge protection and necessitating the use of the Titan HV small panel system for casting of the slabs themselves.

The mesh screens cover several storeys at the same time, minimising the need to constantly reposition as work progresses and providing protection throughout the erection, pouring and striking phases of the casting process.

Mesh panels offer a number of advantages over solid fill panels; not only do they provide a very effective barrier to wind, but they also admit natural light into the working area between wet decks, whilst allowing natural ventilation to reduce the build-up of airborne dust.

Titan HV panels provide the perfect accompaniment to the full height safety screens. Manufactured from lightweight aluminium with a smooth faced inset, Titan HV panels are easily lifted by a single operative and can be erected and struck with minimum requirement for labour or specialist skills and equipment.

In common with most of today’s high rise construction projects, safety at the Jacob Street site is of paramount importance. Metropolitan have been able to reap the benefits of modern formwork systems to assure optimum safety without sacrificing operational efficiency.
